The elephant in the room; discussion

LIVE, THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF CALLS A DAY JUST LIKE THAT AT EVERY POLICE STATION IN THE COUNTRY. THEY SOMETIMES HAVE TO JUDGE WHICH CALLS ARE REAL AND WHICH ARE JUST NUISANCE. THERE ARE MORE PEOPLE THAT CALL IN JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE PISSED OFF AT SOMEONE VS A REAL THREAT. NOWHERE NEAR ENOUGH POLICE TO HANDLE ALL THE CALLS. AND SOMETIMES SHIT SLIPS THRU THE CRACKS, SAD, BUT IT HAPPENS. CRUZ IS A SOMEWHAT DIFFERENT STORY I BELIEVE. ATLEAST 4 DIFFERENT PEOPLE NOTIFIED LAW OFFICIALS AND NOTHING HAPPENED.

Exactly,

Like one of the lawmakers said in FL that was interviewed after they didn't pass a bill for more gun control...

He didn't feel comfortable/right passing more laws that would further restrict law abiding citizens, when it is
the criminals that can't be controlled.

Well on the flip side of that....

We are getting multiple threats by phone/social medial/letters that say someone is going to shoot a school.
Which ones are credible????

We just had a threat here in Pickerington, OH (Franklin County) Licking county also had one.
That was two this week and another last week in Marion/Mansfield......

We know most are copycat jokesters, but do you want to take that chance?
Just like the old Bomb threats back in the 80's.

Even though what some of what you say might be true, authorities don't move even when there is proof.
When she calls 911 and they get to the house and he is beating the shit out of her something should be done.
But they give some fucked up speech and go about their way...

Same with the kid in FL, multiple incidents and they spit out some speech and didn't do anything......

Where did it get us.

We don't need extra laws, we need people to enforce the laws we already have and do their jobs correctly.

You are missing the point by trying to put a political spin on it....

Using your example we would be talking about an investigation of Trump that would have never have been in existence when the tip came it......

Much like this:

http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/po...oting-report/ar-BBJtzJ7?li=BBmkt5R&ocid=ientp

4 months before the shooting someone called the FBI hotline to report Cruz and said the he had threaten to shoot the school. the FBI broke protocol and did not escalate the call like they were supposed to.

... and for the FBI, investigation of Trump never ends, because it's a major (although political) priority.

4 months before the shooting someone called the FBI hotline to report Cruz and said the he had threaten to shoot the school. the FBI broke protocol and did not escalate the call like they were supposed to.
... but regardless, the politicized FBI would never pass up the opportunity to investigate a tip that might lead to an anti-Trump matter, especially if it was thought to involve "collusion" with Russia or potential obstruction of justice.

I'm not going down this rabbit hole, we are supposed to be talking about saving kids.

Just like the AF failed to follow protocol in reporting that guy who shot up a church a few months back. Hmmm... seems to be a trend. What good will more laws and restrictions do if nobody enforces them anyway?

Also, don't know about other instances, but there have been threats at several schools around here too. In about half the cases, police arrested the kids. The other half still got a visit/investigation from the cops at their home.

They got 1 of the 3 so far. They need to charge them as if they actually did it.

First they need to do there job. They should have investigated that call, but they didn't.

The main things I see are threefold:

1. they interviewed the "guardian" of the kid. He said he told him that he was going to have to get gun safe for all those guns, and that
the guardian was going to keep the key. When asked what happened he said he thought he had the only key. What kind of fool
thinks that there is only 1 key to a brand new safe???? First off he should have went and got the safe and said you will keep you guns in this safe, or you won't stay here, and made the kid pay for the safe that way guardian was in complete control.

2. do the jobs you are supposed to do: Here, and in 9's case the FBI dropped the ball they did not do the checks, or investigations.

3. Communication: once you are on the list, it is available to everyone (only one list). If you commit a crime in Lima, OH that keeps you from owning a gun, then that goes into the gun ban database whatever we want to call it. Now if you move to Columbus, OH, or Indianapolis, IN if you goto buy a gun they will be looking at the same database. That's what happened in 9's case, one database didn't know what the other database was doing.

4. Mental Health, and Discipline: With the way thing are today if a kid threatens violence or commits an extremely violent act
They see the doc, and if the doc say he can become violent then he is on the list, like a pedophile. If anyone already has mental health issues that can cause violence then you are on the list. Taking meds doesn't get you off the list, because we don't know if you are taking them. Only a doc signing off saying you are cured gets you of the list and on to probation for 5 years.

Remember there were multiple warnings about this kid, anything that is in place now IF DONE PROPERLY, could have stopped him.
When they expelled him, why did they? You have to do a lot of shit to get expelled, it's usually suspended. I also believe he was in a "problem" school of sorts. If that was the case, he should have being watched already.

That's how I see it. raising the age to 21 won't fix it, the guy in 9's case was over 21. Also,
now the case is, I can't buy a rifle at 18, but I can sign up for the Armed Forces at 18 to use one to kill,
get a mental defect then shoot up a bunch a folks when I get home?????

Dear livespive:

OK ... From your perspective, what law(s) could have been passed that would have prevented Nikolas Cruz from killing 17 people last week?

THERE HAVE BEEN 8 SUCH THREATS IN THE DFW AREA SINCE THE FL SHOOTING. AND SEVERAL KIDS TAKING GUNS TO SCHOOL BECAUSE THEY WERE SCARED. WHERE DID THEY GET THOSE GUNS, RESPONSIBLE PARENT GUN OWNERS. WHO SHOWED THEIR KIDS HOW TO USE THEM AND HOW TO GET TO THEM. AND I AGREE WITH YOU THAT ANYONE WHO MAKES SUCH A THREAT, PRISON TIME, PERIOD!!! NO EXCEPTIONS. 13 YEARS OLD TO BAD. AS YOU SAID, DO WE WANT TO TAKE THAT CHANCE. AND PUTTING ARMED SECURITY ON SITE, THAT WORKED OUT WELL DIDNT IT! THE MORE GUNS YOU HAVE AT A SCHOOL, THE MORE KIDS THAT ARE GOING TO BE KILLED. TEACHERS GO BAD TOO. SANE TODAY DOES NOT MEAN SANE TOMMORROW.

AND I AGREE WITH YOUR MENTAL HEATH EVALUATION TO LIVE. ANY GUN OWNER, FAMILY MEMBER OR HOUSE GUEST WHO MAY ENTER THE HOME, ALL HAVE TO PASS A MENTAL HEALTH TEST, IF ANYONE OF THEM DOES NOT, TAKE THE GUNS AWAY. PROBLEM SOLVED. CANT JUST BAR THEM FROM THE HOUSE. JUST LIKE TAKING MEDS, NOONE WOULD NOW IF IT REALLY HAPPENED.

I'm going to assume that this suggestion is tongue-in-cheek. Otherwise, it's the stupidest screed I've read on the matter this week - and I've read a lot of ignorant banter from gun control hacks in the last seven days.

Just kinda idling for now. Working. Reading. Training. Working some more.

Keeps the days busy, but I occasionally lurk. BTW, I wasn't about to read 6 whole pages of this shit you people have been shoveling for the last week or so. You some long-winded mo-fos... ;)

Scolia, with you being a teacher in the classroom, what are your thoughts on arming teachers and what affect has all this terror had on your classroom environment?
