South Carolina supermarket bakery refuses to put requested "summa cum laude" designation on a cake made to honor a teen's graduation ...

That's certainly a weird way to look at an academic accomplishment.

^^^^^^

Here's the rest of the story, it looks like the Publix store gave her the $70 refund and a store gift card. If it were me......the public shaming, refund and gift card PLUS the general hilarity of the ridiculous nature of this story would be enough.

On Edit (and this is "what happened"): "the online message box did not like the word "cum," the Latin word for "with." The computer marked it as a naughty word and substituted it with three hyphens."

$70 and a store gift card. Hmm. How much did that gay couple get from the owner that didn't bake the cake because it bothered the owners conscience? $135,000 seems ridiculous and not very hilarious to me..

I won't discuss this b/c you won't agree with me that these are different comparisons (protected classes vs not etc).

Let's leave it at that. No point in going around and around and ending up right where we are now.

Freedom of speech and religious rights are both "protected " under the same Constitution.
