I've lived on the west central Florida coast for 58 years, and without a doubt, January was the coldest month - by far -- in all that time.
December was the typical tropical weather I've become used to, but starting on Jan. 1, a series of "arctic vortex" cold fronts went through, and they brought chilly temperatures for most of the month.
Only once did we dip below 42 degrees -- it was down to 35 on Jan. 29 -- but two days later, it was Florida-like again. and it has stayed that way. For all of January, we didn't have any high temperatures over 74, and we even had one high reading of 49, and I don't remember anything like that. As for lows, most nights dropped into the 40s, and that's not common either.
But now it's February, and Mother Nature must have thrown a switch because things are back where they should be weather-wise. Just take a look at our long-range forecast with readings similar to what we had all last week.
